CUT Performance - Bienal Internacional do Porto Santo/Portugal 2011, extension activity at Lisbon

CORTE/ CUT
performance at MOTOR HAIRPORT, Lisbon/Portugal, July 29th

It was not easy at all to understand what would be more appropriate to do in the context of the International Bienal or Arts and the Motor Hairport in Lisbon city. Before going to Lisbon I was thinking about doing something else, but when I was there feeling the space, my body and my thoughts I could understand that I would have to change my plans. After a couple of days I could realize and gather some information from the ambient and everything was clear :0)
For the first time I could try to use the scene "Bag on my head" from the dance piece "And I said:" to a performative ambient. In the CUT performance I was dealing with the cultural identity theme that I've been working on since 2004. And it was almost in front of my nose what I should do in the performance. How can a hair cut change or highlight your identity, your taste, your way of life? And how does people look at you if you have a blond long hair or a punk style look? How does your image change depending on your fashion choices?

Through a structure improvisation and with the collaboration of Ramona (the hairstylist), Helena Vieira (my friend and artist), with Ricardo Pereira and from the Motor Hairport, I did a 25 minutes performance at that hairdresser that once was a truck washer place. Below you can see the link to the short film at Youtube. The soundtrack you are going to listen was from the hairdresser's playlist that was playing in that moment. Giving space to chance :0)
Latter I will post the video made by the artist and friend Angella Conte and the haircut process we had before the CUT performance :0)
